How it all started
Inspired by a photo in the Guardian newspaper of a young girl sat next to a padlocked tap in Nairobi, Kenya, Duncan Goose decided to put the skills he’d learned in his marketing career to better use – and founded One Water. The idea was simple, to sell bottled water and use the proceeds to fund safe, clean water projects for people living in extreme poverty.

The Global Water Crisis
There are still 703 million people in the world living without access to safe, clean water. Over 2 million people die every year from waterborne diseases and lack of access to safe water leaves families trapped in poverty, as they are forced to spend up to 4 hours a day collecting water at the expense of building livelihoods or attending school.

One Water has been on sale in World Duty Free stores for over 18 years and during that time the proceeds have funded safe, clean water to over 450,000 people in Sub-Saharan Africa. Many World Duty Free staff have witnessed this impact firsthand, visiting projects in Malawi as part of an annual incentive programme. The partnership has been transformational.
